Occupying close to 8,100 square kilometers in southern Utah, the monument is one of the planet’s premiere locations for viewing erosion-carved features such as arches, natural bridges, slot canyons and hoodoo rock formations - tall, thin spires created through differential erosion, often of softer rock underlying a resistant capstone.Įstablished in 1996 by President Bill Clinton, the monument is divided into three sections defined by distinct topography.
